Michael Ring TD has confirmed that two heritage buildings in Mayo have been allocated a total of €70,000 in funding under the Historic Structures Fund 2021.
The focus of the fund is on the conservation and enhancement of historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public.
The following structures in Mayo have been allocated funding under the Historic Structures Fund: Holy Trinity Church (Oughaval ), Newport Road, Westport, €50,000 and St Catherine's Church, Louisburgh €20,000.
Deputy Ring said: "We are lucky in Mayo to have a unique built environment of extraordinary quality. Our historic buildings and structures are a vital part of our heritage.
"The funding announced will support the conservation and enhancement of these two historic structures and buildings. It will also provide hundreds of hours of work for skilled craftspeople.
"While the primary responsibility to care for and maintain a protected structure rests with the owner, these funds enable important capital investment in our valuable built heritage. It will help the owners and custodians of historic structures to safeguard them for future generations."
