Michael Ring TD has called on the Government to urgently address 'the serious issue which exists with respect to housing and in particular the need for affordable houses to come on stream again'.
Deputy Ring stated: "I am calling on the Government to address the serious anomaly which exists for people who are working but still cannot afford to buy their own home.
"I am aware of many families who simply cannot purchase their own home. The income guidelines for social housing are too low. In many cases, the income of these households is in excess of the social housing threshold but the income is too low to secure a mortgage.
"Even in households where two people are working, they still cannot secure a mortgage to purchase a home of their own. There is absolutely nothing there for people in a situation such as this to enable them to buy their own home”.
"I am calling on the Government to address this issue without delay so that security can be provided to families caught in this housing trap."
