Independent Ballina councillor Mark Duffy put forward a notice of motion at the April meeting of the Ballina Municipal District calling for a 300 meter extension of the footpath on the Killala road in Ballina to Oaklawn housing estate; and also, in time, allowing it to connect up with the proposed new Culleens National School.
In a written response to the motion, executive engineer for Mayo County Council, Orla Burke, said: "The hardstand area in question is private property, land dedication and funding of €60,000 would be required to complete the works. This could possibly be sought trough future active travel schemes."
