Councillor Michael Loftus has asked for a joint policing forum to be set up for the Ballina Municipal District. He told the April meeting of the district that following on from a recent countywide Joint Policing Committee (JPC ) meeting, he wanted to see a forum set up similar to that used to exist before the abolition of town councils, when Ballina Town Council had its own JPC - which then fed into a countywide JPC.
His call was seconded by Cllr John O’Hara and supported by Cllr Annie May Reape, who said it was important to have one in the district to give councillors an opportunity to discuss issues affecting their areas, as not every councillor was a member of the existing JPC.
