Mayo Pink Ribbon recently launched their 2021 fundraising event ‘300k YOUR Way’ – a virtual 300km journey around the beautiful county of Mayo while raising vital funds for breast cancer research.
A unique feature of this event is that participants cover the journey their own preferred way. They can walk, run, step or cycle in their own local area, adhering to all travel guidelines, and combine the distances covered to reach the finish line, and in doing so they follow a breathtaking virtual route showcasing the beauty, landscape and history of the county.
The “300K Your Way” challenge is being held in place of the annual Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle which usually takes place on the Saturday of the May Bank Holiday weekend. Since its inaugural event in 2010 thousands of cyclists have taken part and over €1.14 million has been raised for breast cancer research at The National Breast Cancer Research Institute, NUI Galway www.breastcancerresearch.ie Lourda McHugh, founder of Mayo Pink Ribbon, said they are delighted with the response so far to the new event. "When we embarked on the Mayo Pink Ribbon - '300k YOUR Way' we were very nervous. Hosting a virtual event was, and still is, new territory for us and we didn't know how it would go down with our supporters.
"With this in mind we set our fundraising target for €30,000, which was lower than other years, but we felt was ambitious for these new times. However, yet again, Mayo Pink Ribbon and this new virtual event have been embraced. Six weeks into our campaign we have already reached our original target of €30,000!
"A huge and sincere thank you to everyone who has helped us get here. However, we are going to be brave now, and even a bit bold, and increase our target. We are going to aim for €65,000 - this is the amount we raised in 2010, our first year of fundraising. It would be so fantastic if we could do this again"
Lourda also encouraged more people to sign up for the event. She explained that ‘300k YOUR Way’ will remain open for the next couple of months so participants needn’t be daunted by the distance.
If they start today they still have lots of time to complete the challenge at their own pace. Sign up and start today or make a direct donation on www.mayopinkribbon.ie Any queries can be sent by email to [email protected] or call (086 ) 8562423 anytime
