This week, Dorothy McKane and her pharmacy team launched their newly renovated, state of the art pharmacy premises in the centre of Ballina, and are once again “back home”, following a devastating fire in 2019 that forced them to relocate on a temporary basis.
Now they are back on O’Rahilly St, in their bright and spacious new pharmacy on the site where Dorothy’s grandfather William originally started the business in 1910. The family tradition has been kept alive through three generations of pharmacists, as both William’s son, Archie, and now his granddaughter, Dorothy, have continued the very successful family business.
Although a lot has changed in 110 years, when it comes to matters of personal health, some things still remain the same. A friendly ear to listen and a kind word to soothe can have a healing power all of their own, and Dorothy and her team at McKane’s Pharmacy continue to provide that traditional, personalised level of customer care, while embracing all that modern medicine and healthcare have to offer. McKane’s newly renovated premises provides the perfect modern setting for the delivery of their traditional, customer focused care. The pharmacy gene seems to be a strong one, as Dorothy’s daughter, Ciara, is now also studying pharmacy, though it is too early yet to say where her future career might take her.
Covid
The Covid 19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of trusted, local, quality healthcare services, just as Mc Kane’s Pharmacy have delivered for generations. The introduction of email prescriptions in pharmacies has been a very positive Covid related safety measure, but people still like the personal touch, and Dorothy and her team are always at the end of the phone to answer any questions, offer help or advice, or just to have a chat with customers that may be isolating, cocooning or cut off from family and friends. Customers coming to visit the new pharmacy can feel reassured, as McKane’s have fitted their new, more spacious premises, with a number of protective features, including an anti- virus air filtration system to ensure customer and staff safety.
