A Boil Water Notice affecting 165 customers supplied by the Clare Island Public Water Supply has been lifted with immediate effect. Irish Water is advising customers that the water quality sampling has confirmed that the water is now safe to drink.
It was necessary to issue the Boil Water Notice on Friday, March 12, following consultation with the HSE due to the detection of cryptosporidium in the water supply. Following further consultation with the HSE, Irish Water and Mayo County Council are advising customers that the drinking water can now be consumed as normal.
Irish Water’s Asset Operations Lead Ger Greally is conscious of the impact such a notice has on customers: "Irish Water and Mayo County Council would like to thank the residents and businesses on Clare Island who were affected by this notice for their patience and cooperation while the notice was in place. Public health is Irish Water’s number one priority and we are delighted that the water on the island is once again safe for consumption."
Business customers will receive a 40 per cent rebate on the cost of the supply of water to their businesses for the duration of the Boil Water Notice.
