Weir wants more money for drainage
The Cathaoirleach of the Ballina Municipal District, Cllr Seamus Weir proposed that the schedule of municipal district works be adopted by the elected members of the district, with the decision on the drainage works to be adopted at a later date.
Cllr Weir told the March meeting of the district that he was not happy with the money that had been allocated for drainage works.
He told the meeting that he looked at the funding for drainage works in other areas and it appeared that there was €50,000 allocated per councillor in the districts but it didn't look like that had happened in Ballina.
He called for a discussion to be held on the drainage works before it was adopted, which supported by the other councillors.
45-year lease approved for scouts in Ballina
The elected members of the Ballina Municipal District gave their approval for the leasing of plot of land at Belleek to the 5th Mayo Scouts Group for a period of 45 years.
The final approval will be given by the April meeting of the full council, following the decision of the councillors in Ballina this week.
Cathaoirleach of the district, Cllr Seamus Weir said: "They have been a long time on the go and we have been looking for a site with them for a good number of years, it was something everybody had got behind and this now offers them a great chance to get a new den up and running as soon as possible."
Duffy appointed to Bio-diversity sub committee
Independent Cllr Mark Duffy has been appointed as the Ballina Municipal District representative on the newly formed Climate and Bio-Diversity sub committee of Mayo County Council.
Cllr Duffy was proposed for the role, by Cllr Annie May Reape at the March meeting of the district which took place this week.
Two homeless presentations in Ballina area in February
There were two homeless presentations in the Ballina Municipal District during the month of February according to the latest Managers Report which was put before councillors of the district at their March meeting this week.
There were also three applications for Housing Assistance Payments in the district during that month, all of which were granted.
