New book from Mayo author

A new book is being published by Art Ó Súilleabháin. The publication is a collection of poetry in English for adults, a collection which Art has been working on for the past number of years.

The book is called Mayflies in the Heather and it deals with many themes related to nature, fishing and the lakes of the west of Ireland. A fondness for the west was rekindled in Art’s memory when he spent a year working at the (CUA ) Catholic University of America in Washington DC, as a Fulbright Scholar in 2017/2018.

He now lives in Corr na Móna in Galway. His maternal grandmother, originally from Cornwall in England, came to Ashford Castle near Cong, to work there, when her father was appointed as game keeper to the Guinness family.

A number of the poems have been published previously in Poetry Ireland Review, The Chair of Poetry Anthology and by Daedalus Press.

Art is known for his work in Mayo schools while he was an ICT Advisor, Director of Mayo Education Centre and for the many years he spent as principal of Carnacon National School. The new publication is available from Castle Bookshop in Castlebar, Martin Murphy’s Newsagent in Ballinrobe, Revival Press Limerick, other local outlets and from Art Ó Súilleabháin himself.
