Michael Ring TD has confirmed that outdoor recreation in Mayo has received a major boost, with €400,000 allocated for two projects.
Deputy Michael Ring stated: "It is brilliant to see such wonderful amenities, which are used extensively by all, supported in this manner by the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS ).
"With the pandemic, it is even more important that we have outdoor facilities to afford people an opportunity to get outdoors, exercise and spend time taking in their amenities.
"Mayo benefits from a total Government pot of €6.5m in funding for outdoor recreational amenities nationwide with 38 projects in total supported."
The following are the successful projects in Mayo: Burrishoole Loop Walks (€200,000 ) which will see trail improvements to the existing network of Burrishoole Loop Walks. Each of the four areas have a series of approved walks ranging in distance from 3km to 16km
Monasteries Trail (€200,000 ) which will see a trail extension to Belleek Woods, Ballina and an additional section to Monasteries of the Moy Greenway and Western Way.
"I will continue to work with Minister for Rural and Community Affairs, Heather Humphreys, to support funding of such worthwhile projects here in Mayo. I believe it is vital that we continue to build resilience in rural communities and make our towns, villages and communities vibrant places for families to live," concluded Deputy Ring.
