Fianna Fáil Cllr Damien Ryan asked at this month's Roads and Transportation Strategic Policy Committee of Mayo County Council for an update on the selection of a route for the proposed Cong relief road.
Responding to Cllr Ryan, head of roads for Mayo County Council, Paul Dolan, said that money had been allocated this year but: "That is to appoint consultants to do a strategic appraisal, I don’t believe it will get us to the preferred option. But it will start the process for analysing various options, environmental issues, ecology and archeology; it is to start the process. That will take some time, to do all that work, but we are looking at a few years, probably at least three years, before a preferred option is there.
