Dillon welcomes housing project going to tender

Fine Gael TD for Mayo, Alan Dillon, has welcomed confirmation that Phase 2 of 22 houses at Lios na Circe, Saleen, Castlebar, has now gone to tender for construction.

The deadline for submission of tender is Friday, April 2 and all going to plan, it is likely construction will commence over the summer and be completed within 12 months.

The second phase of the development will see the construction of six semi-detached single storey two bed homes, seven three bed terraced homes, two four bed terraced homes, six two bed semi-detached two storey homes and one three bed single storey detached home.

Deputy Dillon said: "I raised this issue with the Housing Minister, Darragh O’Brien, last year, when he confirmed this project would be proceeding to tender.

"I am glad to see this tender has now been published and should be finalised by early April. These additional social housing units are badly needed in the Castlebar area and will help to alleviate the large number of families on the housing waiting list.

"It is important more affordable housing is also delivered and I will be working with Mayo County Council to ensure our young people can get their foot on the property ladder. I encourage Mayo County Council to prioritise the greatest number of projects to stimulate the local construction sector and increase the range of housing stock available in our communities.”
