Mayo Fianna Fáil TD, Dara Calleary, has been informed that an assessment of tenders for the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramogue construction contract, is ongoing.
Deputy Calleary said: "In reply to a Parliamentary Question to Minister Eamon Ryan, I have been informed that tenders for the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramogue construction contract were received on December 22, 2020 and assessment of the tenders is ongoing at this time.
"In parallel with the tender process, a detailed Business Case, as required by the Public Spending Code, was prepared and subsequently submitted to the Department of Transport for review in December 2020. Subject to the Department’s review of the Business Case, and Government approval of the project being confirmed, it is anticipated that construction would begin in quarter 2, 2021.
"Furthermore, enabling works underway on the project at this time include archaeological works, ground investigation, topographical surveys, fencing and hedgerow removal, and service diversion works.
"The acquisition of lands/properties for the scheme is also being progressed by Roscommon County Council, the road authority for the area. Transport Infrastructure Ireland has provided an allocation of €22 million to Roscommon County Council this year to progress work on this project.
"The construction of this section of roadway is crucial for Mayo – I and my Fianna Fáil Oireachtas colleagues in Mayo and Roscommon are actively pursuing it and look forward to construction commencing in Quarter Two this year."
