Free family festival

Féile na Tuaithe 2009 is going to be bigger and better than ever before. That was the message from the launch of National Museum of Ireland — Country Life’s popular family festival.

It takes place on Saturday May 23 and Sunday May 24 at Turlough Park outside Castlebar. Opening hours are 12 noon to 5pm and, as always, admission and all attractions and workshops are absolutely free.

Féile begins literally as visitors walk through the wonderful wrought iron gates with attractions, demonstrations and workshops around the grounds. Additionally, several marquees are filled to the brim with crafts and food stands, each representing the best of artisan produce. Attractions include music, face painting, falconry displays, storytelling, live traditional farm animals, a horticultural display with Horkan’s Garden Centre, caricature drawing and all the excitement of working spaniels in action. Demonstrations relate to the scope of the museum itself, with skilled craftspeople bringing traditional arts to life.
