Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary this week said that he anticipated a planning application for the IDA site in Ballina to be ready for submission by the third quarter of this year.

Calleary stated: "The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment has confirmed to me that IDA Ireland has appointed an engineering firm to undertake detailed technical due diligence, review the master plan design and submit a Stage 1 Infrastructure Planning application for their site in Ballina.

"It is anticipated that the application will be ready for submission in quarter three 2021 The site in question is located on the Sligo Road and is 10.6 hectares in size. It has been concept master-planned by IDA Ireland in order to demonstrate its potential to investors.

"I am in regular contact with IDA Ireland in relation to this project and I have requested that this new planning application reflects the current and anticipates the future business and industry needs so that the best and most modern practice is in place at the site.

"I expect IDA Ireland to meet their commitment in terms of submitting the application in quarter three and I will be imploring Mayo County Council to act swiftly and decisively once they receive the plan."
