82 confirmed cases of Covid-19 being treated at MUH last night

There were 82 people being treated for Covid-19 in Mayo University Hospital as of 8pm on Sunday, January 10.

The latest data was released by the HSE in their daily operations update which shows that Mayo University Hospital has the eighth largest number of patients being treated for the virus in the country.

The number of new cases over a 24 hour period up to 8pm on Sunday, January 10 being treated in MUH was 16, the second highest in the country - just behind Drogheda, with another seven suspected cases also being treated in the hospital.

There are just three available general beds in MUH as of last night (January 10 ), with three critical care beds available in the hospital and zero confirmed Covid-19 cases in critical care in the facility, with one suspected case in critical care.

The latest figures from the National Public Health Emergency Team showed there was an additional 95 cases of Covid-19 confirmed in the county as of midnight on Saturday, January 9 - with the total 14 day infection rate for the county showing 1,525 new cases over the past two weeks in Mayo. With the 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population now standing at 1168.5.

Over the weekend the HSE also release the latest Local Electoral Area (LEA ) profiles for the six electoral areas in the county from December 22, 2020 to January 4, 2021.

Belmullet proved to be the national hotspot of infections with 266 new cases over that 14 day period, with the 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population now standing at 2,111.1 in the the LEA. This was over three times the national average.

In Ballina there were 147 new cases in the time period with the 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population now standing at 674.4 in the LEA. Westport LEA saw 75 new cases over that two week time span with the 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population now standing at 408.1.

The Castlebar LEA saw 168 new cases in the measured period, with the 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population now standing at 560.1.

Claremorris LEA saw 201 new cases with the 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population now standing at 740.6 in the LEA and finally in the Swinford LEA there were 100 new cases brining their the 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 population to 674.4
