Seven towns and villages in Mayo are set to benefit from nearly €780,000 in funding under the Department of Community and Rural Development Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
The Mayo communities to benefit are as follows: (1 ) Breaffy: €100,000: Establish a loop walk around the Breaffy Woods amenity; (2 ) Cong: €100,000: Creation of a new public space in Cong Village; (3 ) Killala: €200,000: Phase 3 Regeneration of Killala Town; (4 ) Kiltimagh: €100,000: Stage 1 Development of Kiltimagh Amenity Park; (5 ) Moygownagh: €80,000: Development of the Moygownagh Trails Initiative; (6 ) Straide - €100,000: Village Improvements with emphasis on the Michael Davitt Museum; (7 ) Westport - €100,000: Hazardous paving, orientation signage, and tree along the South Mall.
Mayo Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon has described the €780,000 investment announced today as a “significant development” for rural towns and villages in Mayo.
Deputy Dillon said: "This is fantastic news for the seven towns and villages in Mayo whose applications were successful. I wish to thank my colleague, Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD and look forward to these projects being brought to fruition and to the benefits being felt by local communities."
His party colleague Deputy Michael Ring also welcomed the announcment saying: "The Town and Village Renewal Scheme forms an important part of the Government’s drive to enhance our rural towns and villages and to make them attractive places in which to live and work. The benefits of previous rounds of funding under this scheme has been felt countrywide."
