Singer Mary Coughlan to be the voice against domestic abuse in Mayo

Irish singer Mary Coughlan will highlight the supports available to victims of domestic abuse in Mayo in a new video set to be released on November 25.

At a time when Covid-19 restrictions have confined women and children to homes that may not be safe, the new video outlines that essential supports continue to be provided in towns across the county, to those who need help.

Mary Coughlan echoes what services are highlighting, saying that: "Women shouldn’t be afraid to contact services…. they can and they will meet women face-to-face."

In order to share this vital message, The Community Response to Domestic Abuse Western Region Network- which comprises of the Family Resource Centres of Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, along with other community organisations, and Front Line Services - are launching this Video 'Open Doors' on November 25, the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This also marks the start of the 16 Days Campaign which ends on December 10, International Human Rights Day.

While Mary Coughlan provides the voiceover, the video shows photographs of all Network member organisations along with women from various ethnic groups, who give a voice to women’s real experiences of domestic abuse and seeking support.

The Community Network is launching the video via Zoom and it will be shared through social media platforms throughout the 16 days, from November 25 to December 10.
