Achill based artist to release journal to benefit a number of charities

Artist Alexandra Van Tuyll has just published a book on ancient Irish trees that will benefit a number of local charities.

Alexandra, who resides in Achill, is no stranger to helping local charities through her art and this is her latest attempt to raise much needed funds for worthy causes.

Ancient Irish Trees – A reflective journey through the year will raise funds for Mayo, Sligo, Galway and Limerick Rape Crisis Centres, Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, The Clare Hospice at Cahercalla and Galway Hospice Foundation.

The book follows the 13 ancient Irish trees, as mentioned in the Celtic Calendar through the four seasons. So each tree is shown in four pictorial painted images, which details winter, spring folklore, summer and autumn in a beautiful manner. Every season has an Early Christian poem about it on the opposite page.

Priced at €50, the book will be on sale at various local outlets from next week and right up to the lead up to Christmas including on www.hospice.ie, from the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation office in Knock on (094 ) 9388666 and the 12 Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation Shops in the two counties. The Mayo Rape Crisis Centre will also have copies available from their website www.mrcc.ie, or by phoning the centre on (094 ) 9025657.

Martina Jennings CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation said: "We are so grateful to Alexandra for supporting us once again with her latest publication. This is not the first time that she has used her incredible talent to benefit Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and other worthy causes and we will be forever indebted to her for her unwavering support of our work in funding local palliative care services throughout the two counties."

Loretta McDonagh Director of Services with the Mayo Rape Crisis Centre expressed their sincere thanks to Alexandra for including the centre as one of the charities in this project. She said: "Art and nature have long since played a part in the healing journey for many who have endured trauma and the images and stories contained in this beautiful book will no doubt support that.”

"We are certain that this stunning publication would be a welcome addition to anyone’s home this Christmas - a truly unique and quality gift."
