Castlebar councillors want GMIT President to come and address them

The elected members of the Castlebar Municipal District have issued an invitation for the President of GMIT to come to one of their meetings to address concerns the councillors have about the future of the Mayo campus of the third level institution.

Independent Cllr Michael Kilycone said that unless the Castlebar campus had its own dedicated funding stream, the future of the faculty would always be uncertain. Cllr Donna Sheridan pointed out that through her work in the Education and Training Board (ETB ), she had seen the number of people, especially adult learners who came through ETB courses, go on and study in the Castlebar campus of GMIT. She added that any loss of courses would be detrimental to others following in their footsteps.
