Mayo County Council has spent €19,000 on improvement and replacement works on the CCTV camera system in Casltebar over the past number of weeks, which has brought 21 of the 24 cameras in the town up to operational level.
Head of the district for Mayo County Council, Iarla Moran, told the October meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District that there were originally 19 CCTV cameras in the town which were monitored by the Gardai and an additional five were installed under a scheme by the former town council and were monitored by the Gardai too.
He added that the servicing of the cameras had not been ironed out in the past and that was being worked on, but following work in the recent past, 21 of the 24 cameras were now back operational in the town.
