Business as usual says O'Brien after FG expulsion

Cllr Patsy O'Brien said that it will be "business as usual representing the people" for him after his expulsion from the Fine Gael party this week.

The Robeen-based councillor said in a statement that he is disappointed with Fine Gael headquarters for revoking his membership of the party and he will be challenging this decision.

He also outlined that he would not be leaving politics and it would be "business as usual representing the people of the Claremorris Municipal Area which covers the entire south Mayo area."

O'Brien had been suspended by the party in March and following the completion of a disciplinary investigation, the party decided this week to expel Cllr O'Brien from the party.

Cllr O'Brien was the poll-topper in the Claremorris area in the local elections last year, getting 2,995 first preference votes, more than 1,000 over the quota and leading a charge that saw the party win four of the six seats in the area.
