The Linenhall Arts Centre is delighted to present a range of exciting arts events and opportunities for families, schools and artists as part of RoolaBoola Children’s Arts Season 2020.
The University of Imagination and Wonder is one not to miss for families in search of activities to enjoy together at home during Level 5 restrictions. It’s a fun, interactive, live theatre experience presented via the magic of digital technology. The brainchild of award-winning theatre company CahootsNI, The University of Imagination and Wonder is designed for families with children aged seven years and older and takes place on Saturday, November 7.
"We spent an hour mesmerised by a fun and interactive theatre experience, where we met lecturers and professors who left us mind-boggled and brain-bamboozled with their magical powers! A brilliant production", said students from Barnacogue National school, who attended one of the online performances for schools earlier this month.
‘Crown lakeen’ is the Linenhall’s annual exhibition curated with young audiences in mind. It celebrates Traveller/Mincéir girls, their aesthetic expression and their unique culture, as expressed through their hair.
For this exhibition artist Breda Mayock and photographer Orla Sloyan worked with Traveller/Mincéir girls to create a series of photographic portraits.
The exhibition is available to view online via the Linenhall Arts Centre website. ‘Crown lakeen’ is presented in tandem with its sister exhibition ‘Crown beoir’ which takes place at the National Museum of Ireland Country Life, Turlough Parke.
In the absence of the opportunity for school children to experience live performances with their schools as part of RoolaBoola, the Linenhall Arts Centre, Branar and the Lime Tree Theatre, have joined forces to deliver an exciting new music initiative for children in junior and senior infants, first and second class.
Rockin’ the Classroom is a music resource pack for teachers which includes a CD of the music from Branar’s hugely popular show Rockin’ Rhymes, a resource booklet, exclusive access to Rockin’ the Classroom videos, and a Rockin’ Rhymes Poster. Due to overwhelming demand, the registration date for this initiative has been extended.
And that’s not all. This year the Linenhall Arts Centre is offering an artist residency as part of RoolaBoola. The residency is designed to support up to two collaborating artists working in the area of arts provision for children, and is open to artists working in any art form.
It may be of interest to those in search of time and space to develop their practice, to research, try out ideas and develop work for young audiences. The deadline for applications is November 12 at 5pm.
