JCI Mayo presents ‘Mind Your Mental Health’ panel discussion

A recent survey shows that 72% of people believe that Irish society’s response to mental health issues over the coming months will be important.

The results gathered from the St Patrick’s Annual Stigma and Attitudes Survey 2020 were based from a group of 800 adults across Ireland during the month of June. The survey also shows that 27% (over a quarter of Irish people ) reported they or a family member experienced mental health difficulties for the first time during the Covid-19 pandemic.

JCI Mayo invites you to join them for a panel discussion on Mind Your Mental Health, this evening Tuesday, October 27 at 7pm via Zoom, where they will be joined by local speakers, with experience working in the area of mental health, who will have an open and casual conversation on the topic.

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a challenging time for most and with us in the middle of another lockdown and winter at the door, some people might find it more worrying than others. It is natural that this worry might affect your mental health. But there are many things you can do to mind your mental health during times like this.

JCI Mayo are highlighting that this is normal, and not a sign of weakness, and with the help of their panelists, they aim to help change attitudes and behaviours around mental health.

Mary McHugh, Founder of counsellingonline.ie will MC the panel discussion. She will be joined by panelists Lianne McManamon. (Health Promotion Officer at Mayo Mental Health Association ), Cliona Conway, who has been involved with Mindspace Mayo since 2016, and June Devaney who has worked and volunteered in various mental health and social care roles prior to specialising in exercise.

JCI Mayo President, Aine Mc Manamon commented: "Mental health issues affect young people in general, but the stresses with Covid-19 have increased mental health difficulties, with people who never experienced these issues before now looking for options to cope. While mental health awareness has come a long way in recent years, we want to do our bit to raise awareness to reduce the stigma. We want to remind people that it's okay to talk."

This panel discussion will help explore a variety of options to support people facing mental health challenges so people can cope as we go into the winter, while in a pandemic.

This discussion will also be beneficial for those who want to know the options so they can help friends and family who are struggling mentally right now.

Tickets for this panel discussion are €5 and are available on Eventbrite: (http://bit.ly/JCIOctoberEvent )

The link for the meeting will be sent after registration closes at 6pm this evening October 27. For further information contact JCI Mayo via their social channels (@JCIMayo ) or email [email protected]
