Visiting restrictions continue at Mayo University Hospital

Mayo University Hospital would like to remind the public that visiting is still not permitted at the hospital other than in exceptional circumstances.

Catherine Donohoe, Hospital Manager said: “We are again reminding the public that visiting is not permitted in Mayo University Hospital other than end of life situations and other exceptional circumstances as agreed with the ward manager in advance of visiting. In these circumstances, families should telephone the hospital and request to speak to the relevant ward manager who will decide if a visit can be facilitated without compromising the welfare of the patients on the ward. In particular it is important that children do not visit patients in the hospital.

"We appreciate how difficult and upsetting it is for our patients and their families not to be able to visit, but it is a very important infection control measure which helps us protect our patients, particularly those who are most vulnerable, and our staff.

"We are working on ways to improve our communication with designated family members and processes to help our elderly patient make telephone calls. We also have a drop-off service to enable family members or friends drop in patient clothing or other items required by our patients. We would like to thank members of the public for their co-operation.”
