Fianna Fáil TD for Mayo Dara Calleary has welcomed confirmation that the Government has announced that the National Fuel scheme is now live.
Deputy Calleary has urged people who may be eligible to apply now for the fuel allowance under the National Fuel Scheme to do so. Calleary commented: "This week is the first of the new fuel allowance season. The allowance is paid at a weekly rate of €24.50, or, if the recipient prefers, by way of two lump sum payments of €343 each.
"This will be our first winter living with Covid-19. I suspect many will spend much time at home over the winter, increasing the cost of heating their homes. This adds to the importance of the fuel allowance season which runs to April.
"Those who received the payment last year will automatically receive it this year, provided they meet the qualifying criteria. Applications are now open for new applicants as well. I would urge constituents who think they may be eligible to apply now."
