Independent Cllr Christy Hyland this week called for a plan to be put in place to make sure that Westport town centre does not end up with a big traffic backlog once the new N5 Westport to Turlough road project is completed.
Cllr Hyland raised the issue at the Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting, saying: "We need a new traffic plan for Westport to keep the flow of traffic moving through the town when the the road is completed." He also queried whether there is a plan for a southern relief road around the town in the works.
