Get ready to turn the dial, BCRFM has been awarded a second 100 day license!
The new license will came into effect last Saturday and will run until the September 5 2021. This will once again allow the station to broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays from 9.30am till 11pm on 101.9 FM, throughout Ballina and its surrounding areas.
The station will also continue to stream all shows on-line and on bcrfm.ie, as well as on the TuneIn app for smart devices and phones.
The station would like to acknowledge the continued support of local businesses in their sponsorship of show programming. Without the option to fundraise due to Covid-19 the overheads arising from running the station are been covered by sponsorship alone. The financial support from sponsors has allowed the station to continue to be the voice of Ballina.
Taking its cue from community radio elsewhere, BCR101.9fm is a non-profit station that is volunteer led. This year BCRFM is continuing their partnership with Mayo North East and its Tús initiative providing short-term working opportunities for unemployed people.
They will continue to use their platform as a radio station to promote shopping local and supporting local business. This is reflected in their radio programming, for example, their In Focus business show will be highlighting local business news with weekly interviews.
The new show Pure Ballina is all things Ballina, Match Day Live brings live coverage of local matches and Saturday Breeze is their light magazine show highlighting local news and events.
BCRFM’s shows are varied, playlist-free, advert free and most of its presenters are from the local area. The weekend schedule offers a mix of music shows including country, rock, soul, 50's and 60's, folk and blues, west of Ireland artists, classical plus a weekly chart show.
In the past year they have had a new injection of young presenters eager to learn the foundation skills of radio broadcasting. They have and continue to be mentored by one of our dedicated and knowledgeable presenters.
One group have recently created a new sports show called “Match Day Live” with weekly interviews with prominent sporting personalities and have already amassed a large social media following.
The popular book club programme All Booked Up returns with a monthly book club featuring a variety of reading recommendations and reviews presented by local author Lyndsey Gallagher.
BCRFM began broadcasting for the first time online in July 2014. The following year the station was awarded a 30 day FM license and again in 2017.
Their first 100 day licence was awarded in 2019 and again this year. From theirr humble beginnings seven years ago, they have grown as a station not only in terms of broadcasting but also in volunteer numbers.
