In the gents' single stableford competition, John McHugh was the winner with a score of 42pts, second place went to John Lydon, with the gross win going to Brian McGuinness. The qualifiers were Geoffrey Sheridan, Alan Flannery, Adrian Flannery, James Lavin, Willie Rogers, Niall Egan and Timothy Regan. The ladies' single stableford competition was won by Marian Scully with a score of 28pts.
The Sunday gents' stableford competition was won by Joe Sheridan with a score of 43pts, Monty Heneghan finished in second place, with the gross prize going to Gary Brett. The category winners were Philip Rossiter, Brendan King and Enna Bane. The front nine win went to Adrian Dervin and the back nine win to Willie Rodgers. The ladies' competition was won by Ann Tracey with a score of 37pts, Christina Moran finished in second place with Aine Melville in third place and fourth place going to Sharon O'Malley. The front nine prize was won by Geraldine Ruane with the back nine prize being claimed by Joanne Comer.
Mulranny
Congrats to Mulranny native and member, Brian Carey, on winning the President’s prize recently at St Anne’s Golf Club, Dublin with 42pts. The Masterson Plant Hire, Achill, stableford competition, was captured by Andrew Forde with 39pts, pipping Colin Cooney on the back nine, Eugene Patten was third on 38pts. This weekend’s stroke competition winner will receive the Corrigan Perpetual Cup. Play Friday through to Sunday.
Last week’s open competition was won by Colm Darcy with 40pts, Brendan Patten took second spot on 38pts. It’s time to get your winter league teams organised as it tees off on the weekend of October 11 with teams of four (male or female ). Best wishes to Eugene McCormack and Tony McDonnell who will represent Mulranny in the Connaught/Ulster Holmpatrick Cup regional qualifier at Rossmore Golf Club, Monaghan, on Sunday and also to Fergus Rothwell, who will feature in the Gold Medal Tournament in the K Club in October; a just reward for his course record earlier in the season.
Westport
The Sunday competition was won by Tom Holland with a score of 40pts, the category one winner was Liam Halpin with Pete Healy in second place. The category two winner was David Cameron with Martin Connolly in second place. The category three win went to Tony Ruane with Oisin Mallon finishing in second place in that category, with Ronan Hehir the gross prizee winner.
The Friday competition was won by Aidan Mulchary from Woodstock Golf Club with a score of 42pts, second place went to Martin Boyle of Ballinrobe Golf Cub with another visitor, David Long, from Oughterard, finishing in third place.
There was a once-in-a-lifetime occasion at Westport Golf Club during last Sunday's competition, when Eugene Lavelle holed out his second on the index one par four 13th hole, only to be followed in by playing partner, Ronan Hehir, on his second shot also.
