Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has welcomed the announcement that the final phase of the grants to third level students in Mayo will be paid this week. Following representations between Deputy O’Mahony and Mayo County Council and the Department of Education, it was confirmed on Friday evening last that the grants would be paid.
“This news will come as a huge relief to all third level students. It’s a particularly traumatic time of the year in any event for students, with exams looming, but the stress of wondering would they receive their grants was an extra burden that they could have done without.
“This has been dragging on for too long but at least it’s now resolved and I know that it will be welcomed by all students who simply rely on those grants to complete their academic year. I’d especially like to thank the officials of Mayo County Council and the Department of Education for their co-operation and understanding,” he said.
