Michael Ring, T.D. has given a progress report in relation to the gteic (Gréasán Digiteach na Gaeltachta ) network in Mayo.
He stated that: "I provided funding in excess of €3.5 million nationally under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund for the development of the hubs with over €1.5 million invested nationally by Údarás na Gaeltachta."
"The gteic innovation and digital hubs with high speed broadband provide desk spaces for innovators, entrepreneurs, remote workers and businesses in Gaeltacht areas and support the sustainability of these communities.
"The Gteic building in Achill is completed and will be opening soon. There is agreement in place for three companies to move into the centre once opened.
"The Gteic at the Marine Centre in Achill is complete and there is a company starting up there in October/November 2020 which will initially create up to five jobs in 2021 and increasing thereafter. This company will be supported by a grant aid package from Údarás na Gaeltachta.
"In relation to the Tourism and Creative Hub gteic in Belmullet, the tourism element of this Hub has been complete with the technology purchased.
"The local chamber is developing content for the centre. A creative studio was developed in Beal an Mhuirthead Business Hub to enable creative content creation business to start-up.
"The Business Hub gteic in Belmullet has been completed and operational from July 2020. Two new businesses and two new start-ups have already moved into the centre with several business due to move in over the next few months.
"The gteic in Greannaí, Belmullet is completed and operational.
"The gteic in Gaoth Sáile has been slightly delayed due to the building works that needed to be completed. Contractors are due on site in early October 2020. Údarás have tendered for the equipment for the Sports technology centre to be developed in the Hub and the equipment is ready to be installed once the building programme is complete.
"The gteic in Eachléim is completed and operational.
"I am pleased that the allocated funding has been used and the majority of the gteic hubs in Mayo are now operational" concluded Deputy Ring.
