GMIT iHub to co-host online R&D event as part of Mayo Ideas Week

GMIT Mayo Innovation Hub will host an online event with WestBIC and Grant Thornton on Thursday,  September 24  at 10am focusing on R&D supports and EU Funding for start-ups.

Speakers include: James McMahon (Head of Research at Grant Thornton ), who will speak about the efficiencies and tax benefits of engaging in R&D; Helena Deane (WestBIC ) who will talk about EU Funds and how to access them; Sharon White (MET Gateway Manager at GMIT ) who will speak about innovation supports and engaging with the Research Community; and a local company representative will also outline EU funding options.

Maria Staunton, GMIT Mayo iHub Manager, and one of the event co-ordinators, says: "During the pandemic companies need to look at new opportunities and directions for their businesses.

"R&D is an area that many companies don't explore, often believing that it is too time-consuming. Often companies don't understand the R&D tax benefits of engaging in R&D. Knowing which European Funds to access can also be quite challenging."

Bookings are now open at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rd-tax-credits-tax-efficiency-european-funding-opportunities-for-smes-tickets-119799243763.

This event is being held as part of Mayo Ideas Week 2020. Full details on all events are available at: www.mayoideasweek.ie and on social media #MayoIdeasWeek.

"GMIT’s iHubs reopened in June 2020 with Covid-19 risk mitigation protocols in place. Most iHubs clients have now returned but all major events are fully online. On Tuesday, September 8 we hosted our annual EMPOWER Explore Women’s entrepreneurship event and were delighted to see 180 people registered" said Staunton.

"Programme delivery is also online including the New Frontiers and EMPOWER Programmes. GMIT Mayo iHub services are also available to people who are working remotely – remote desk with internet, boardroom and conferencing facilities are provided.

"The ‘Look West’ campaign targets people wanting to work remotely, and the Western Development Commission’s ‘More to Life’ campaign encourages people to make the move west. Remote working patterns since Covid-19 have now made that move possible. GMIT Mayo iHub is a facility committed to assisting that transition" she added.
