New public art commission launched by county council

Mayo County Council’s Arts Service is delighted to announce the public art commission: Navigating a Future. This commission is an opportunity for artists to create new artwork in response to the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and our lives going forward.

The following are eligible to apply; professional practicing artists living in Mayo, artists at all stages of their careers and artists working in all art forms; visual arts, performance, music, theatre, film, literature, street spectacle, dance, multi-media, interdisciplinary practice etc. The commission will culminate in an artwork; or documentation of an artistic process, being presented to the public in 2021.

Artists are best placed to respond to these unusual times of social change through their artistic practice. This commission will give selected artists an opportunity to research and create new work that explores and reflects on questions, insights and themes that have arisen from the Covid-19 pandemic and our future. The theme is open to interpretation and creative response; it should take a form that best suits the practice of the individual artist.

This commission is part of Mayo County Council’s Public Art Programme. The application deadline is September 30 at 5pm and the successful artists will be announced in late October.

Further information and submission details can be found in the artist’s brief available on: www.mayo.ie/arts/public-art/current-projects Or contact Aoife O’Toole, A/Public Art Coordinator, [email protected], (094 ) 9064376.
