Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary has welcomed news of the expansion of the Supervalu store in the Bunree Retail Centre in Ballina.
The locally owned store – managed by owners John and Edel Moloney – currently employs 60 staff and will soon commence a major expansion that will see staff levels rise to 75.
“Moloney's Supervalu opened three years ago with the creation of 60 jobs in Ballina and has grown in strength every year since. I am delighted that John and Edel are investing in their business with expansion plans that will see a further 15 jobs created.
“In the current climate of economic doubt and uncertainty it is refreshing to see a local business committing to its town and willing to invest in its future. I would like to wish John and Edel and all at Supervalu every best wish for the future,” said Deputy Calleary.
“In these days of big multinationals and large retailers expanding and taking over the lion’s share of the retail market it is great to see locally owned retailers expanding and keeping up with the times,” added Sandra Cribben, CEO of Ballina Chamber. “While the retail emphasis in Ballina is predominately focused on the town centre there are many areas on the outskirts of the town that provide easily accessible, high-quality customer service and good-value shopping. One such area is Bunree, where there are a number of retailers that cater for a variety of needs such as Archers, Morrows Furniture, JFK Kitchens, Tile Superstore, Molloy’s Pharmacy and the main anchor tenant of the development, Supervalu,” continued Sandra. “Ballina Chamber is delighted that this expansion is taking place and it proves that retailing is on the rise in Ballina.”
