Last night (Thursday ) an open meeting was due to take place between Government Ministers Eamon Ryan and Eamon Ó Cuív with community groups Pobal Chill Chomáin, Pobal Le Chéile, Rossport Solidarity Camp, Shell To Sea (Mayo ), and members of the Erris community at Inver Community Hall.
The request for the meeting was extended by Pobal Chill Chomáin, Pobal Le Chéile, Rossport Solidarity Camp, and Shell To Sea (Mayo ) as a result of what they dubbed recent “serious and sinister developments” in their community.
In a joint statement the community representative groups said: “Our community groups are now jointly calling on the Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern to immediately facilitate an internationally supervised investigation into this [attacks by balaclava-clad men at Glengad last week] and other sinister incidents, so that peace and order may be restored to our community. We call on the Government to exercise its primary duty to protect its citizens and to insist that Shell behaves responsibly.”
