There are a handful of quarter-final spots left up for grabs in the exclusive Mayo GAA Junior Football Championship ahead of round three this weekend.
Already into the final eight are Eastern Gaels, Ardagh, Shrule-Glencorrib and Cill Chomain after the first two rounds of action.
In group one both Eastern Gaels and Ardagh have booked their spots in the knock-out stages with both sides having beaten Moygownagh and Kilmovee already - the two teams through to the next stage of the competition will face off on Saturday afternoon in Swinford to decide who tops the group and gets a seeded position in the quarter final draw.
In group two Kilmeena are looking good to book their place in the last eight, having won two from two; seeing off Lacken and Killala already, they will take on Ballycroy in Newport on Saturday afternoon - with the north Mayo men needing to win you would expect them to have any chance of making the last eight.
Ballycroy are level on points with Killala at the minute on two points each at the moment and with Killala facing a bottom of the table, Lacken and expected to pick up the win there and with Kilmeena favoured to win, it looks like the those two will make it through.
In group three Kilmaine's drive to make it back out of junior continues at pace, the south Mayo men lost the final last year to Castlebar Mitchels B, but did go on to claim a Connacht Junior title afterwards and they are two from two so far this year sitting on top of the group. Behind them in the standings at the minute are Achill and Tourmakeady level on two points each with Kilfian sitting bottom of the group. Achill will be hot favourites to see off Kilfian on Sunday in Bangor Erris and Kilmaine will be expected to dispatch Tourmakeady, which would send both Achill and Kilmaine through to the next round.
Group four is a three team group and both Shrule-Glencorrib and Cill Chomain are already through to the next round ahead of their meeting this weekend to decide who will finish top of the table.
