The action in golf clubs around Mayo is well and truly up and running and there were a number of big competition wins in recent weeks.
Balla
The President's Prize was held in Balla recently and the winner of the ladies' competition was Marie Cresham with a round of 51, Mary B O'Donnell finished in second spot with the gross prize going to Julie Loftus. Third place went to Margaret Forakan with the rest of the top six composed of Kathleen Minogue, Marie Flanagan and Carmel Henry. The 'nearest the pin' winner was Breege Walsh. In the gents' competition Pat Mohan with a 52 took home the win, he finished one stroke in front of John Hyland with the gross going to Ronan Mahon. Jimmy Sheridan finished in third place with Martin Moylette coming home in fourth, Keith Heneghan in fifth and sixth spot going to Conor Holian. The nearest the pin prize went to Ronan Mahon. In the students section Jack Hall took the win with Fergal O'Neill in second place, while Danny Lyons won the past President's prize.
Swinford
In the Lambe Cup - 18 hole stroke competition last weekend, Keith McHugh was the winner with a round of 64, second place went to Eric Hynes who hit a 67 and PJ Brett's 67 was enough for him to come home third. The nine hole stableford competition was won by Gary McNeela who scored 20pts, second place went to Doug Cairns who also scored 20pts.
Westport
Cormac O'Farrell was the winner of the Wednesday, July 29 competition; he scored 41pts and finished ahead of Declan Stout in second and Michael Heneghan in third. The Liam Walsh Plate competition which took place on Thursday, July 30 was won by James McNamara who hit 40pts, Austin O'Toole came home in second place and Martin Halpin finished in third. The Friday, July 31 competition was won by Tony McCabe who scored 39pts, his back nine play saw him edge Austin O'Malley into second place and Liam Carty into third. The Saturday competition was won by James Gordon with a score of 41pts, Adrian Taheney finished second on 38pts with Cormac O'Farrell coming home in third place. The Sunday competition was won by James Gordon who scored 42pts, Shane Curran finished in second place with John Regan in third, the top five was rounded out by Eoin Donohoe and Morgan Doyle.
