Specsavers Audiologists are encouraging the Belmullet community to visit a newly-opened hearing clinic for expert advice and to address any deterioration during lockdown.
The clinic is located in the Swanick Family Practice in Belmullet and is being led by Andy Thompson, a vastly experienced and highly qualified audiologist from Specsavers Ballina. Andy is well known within the town’s community business and brings with him a level of professionalism and expertise that is in line with the Specsavers high standards and much appreciated by its customers.
In his role as a Specsavers audiologist, Andy is encouraging people to have their hearing regularly checked. He says: "Lockdown has been a challenging time for our audiology customers as they rely heavily on their hearing aids to stay connected with friends, family and with the daily news.
"Now that we are back open, we are encouraging anyone who has struggled with their hearing or eyesight during the pandemic to make an appointment as soon as possible. The health of our ears plays a vital part in our overall wellbeing, so it is essential that regular hearing checks are carried out, especially with those over the age of 55."
Research, recently commissioned by Specsavers, found that 12% of people have noticed a deterioration in their hearing during the lockdown period.
While the Covid-19 lockdown meant that almost 80,000 people were unable to attend routine appointments, the survey also found that half of people are more health aware as a result of the pandemic. Specsavers is therefore advising anyone who has noticed a change in their eye health or hearing to seek professional help now that the store has reopened.
Specsavers has introduced a series of measures to create a safe and comfortable experience at each of their audiology centres for customers and staff.
These include restrictions on the number of customers allowed in at any one-time and strict social distancing rules are in place. Keeping in line with HSE recommendations, Specsavers staff use personal protective equipment (PPE ) and all testing equipment and frames are thoroughly sanitised before and after each use.
Specsavers also offers a fantastic range of affordable and innovative digital hearing aids which are designed to all types of hearing loss, with rechargeable and Bluetooth technology and remote fine-tuning options available. The qualified audiologists can advise which hearing aids are right for you and ensure that you receive the quality hearing care you need.
