Get involved for Chernobyl charity

Construction may be on a slow-down throughout the country, but the Chernobyl Children’s Project Westport Outreach Group is about to start building a very special house in central Westport. Constructed from the hundreds of bricks designed by the town’s children, it will be housed in the new premises — just off Mill Street, to the right of the Mill Street car park entrance — all designed for the Chernobyl Groups Bricks 4 Hope campaign.

The Chernobyl group has also lined up some of the town’s best known auctioneers to bring the hammer down on a range of artwork contributed by some of the town’s top artists at an art auction this evening (Friday, May 1 ) at the Clew Bay Hotel (7.30pm ).

John Judge, Olivia Needham, and Gerard O'Toole, as well as Frank Chambers, Derek Lavelle, Andrew Crowley, Sean Joyce, Joe Ring, Don McGreevey, Simon Cronin, and Austin O'Toole will be among the guest auctioneers on the night.

Finally, on Saturday May 2 there will be an opportunity to add your own brick to the construction. Artists will be hand to help people to design their Brick 4 Hope at the Westport Leisure Centre from 1pm to 5pm.
