Fianna Fail's Mayo County Council whip Cllr Damien Ryan has called for the local authority to find a new permanent home for council meetings during the Covid-19 crisis - until the council can move back to holding full meetings in the existing council chamber at Aras an Chontae in Castlebar.
The Ballinrobe based councillor praised the efforts of the local authority to date in finding suitable meeting venues and thanked GMIT Mayo for the use of St Mary's Hall for previous meetings and The Royal Theatre in Castlebar, which hosted the July meeting that took place on Monday last.
However, Cllr Ryan said it was time that a new and more permanent home was found for meetings and asked whether the council could retro-fit one of its existing buildings for the purpose of a meeting room, in order to provide certainty going forward. The proposal was seconded by his party colleague, Cllr Al McDonnell.
