Castlebar businesses encouraged to promote the town during Riverdance

Castlebar Chamber of Commerce and Gnó Mhaigh Eo are encouraging the businesses of Castlebar to issue a huge céad míle fáilte to the cast and crew of Riverdance when they descend on the town next month. More than 20,000 people will attend the highly acclaimed show when it opens in the Royal Theatre on September 3 and continues until September 9.

The Chamber and Gnó Mhaigh Eo are viewing this as a great opportunity for the town to promote itself and all the amenities available in and around the town from shopping to golfing to studying.

Riverdance is steeped in culture and as its roots date back to the Mayo 5000 celebrations it ties in with the history and culture of Mayo. Castlebar Chamber of Commerce are therefore encouraging businesses to use culture and tradition to celebrate Riverdance and to promote Castlebar.

Gnó Mhaigh Eo, an agency created to work with businesses to make Irish more visible in Mayo, is kindly sponsoring a prize of €250 for the most visually cultural business for the duration of Riverdance, beginning on Saturday August 30 to coincide with Castlebar Community festival, Féile on the Mall, and continuing for a fortnight.

Simple ideas on how businesses can incorporate culture into their business include window displays, bilingual menus, in-store displays, bilingual signage and actively using the Irish language in business.

Using the Irish language is a very simple and visual way of displaying our culture. Gnó Mhaigh Eo can help with any translation or advice on incorporating Gaeilge into your Gnó.

Castlebar Chamber of Commerce believe in using every opportunity to promote Castlebar as a lively town that is good place to visit, to play, to shop and to work. The cultural theme has been chosen in this instance as it coincides with the clientele Riverdance and the Féile will be attracting and this is seen as a positive and appropriate way to market Castlebar for the fortnight.

For more information on the cultural fortnight contact either Gnó Mhaigh Eo on 098 26555 or Castlebar Chamber of Commerce on 094 902 4841.

This homecoming of Riverdance has been made possible due to the imminent launch in Castlebar of what is expected to become Ireland’s premier multi-purpose auditorium. The breathtaking size of this most impressive development has not gone unnoticed by the local population and excitement has steadily grown over the last few months. There is no doubt that the new Royal Theatre is a venue to rival any on the island. Due to this fantastic new facility, the west of Ireland in general, and Castlebar in particular, will be attracting first-rate acts and events for many years to come.

Hoteliers Pat and Mary Jennings are extremely proud of their new venue which will shortly be unveiled to the Irish public. “We have worked particularly hard for many years to bring this project to fruition. The opening of this new venue will be a very exciting day,” says Pat. “At every stage, we have been most aware that the consumer experience is paramount. We firmly believe that the acoustic and visual performance of our new arena, along with the exceptional on-site facilities, will guarantee complete customer satisfaction.”

Riverdance will run for 10 performances in Castlebar from September 3 to September 9. Tickets are priced at €28 for children, €44 to €50 for adults and a family ticket for two adults and two children is available for €125.
