Alongside preparations for re-opening its gallery space and coffee shop, the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar continues to offer arts workshops online.
It’s “Write Away at Home” workshop series with Jean Tuomey kicked off last week and is fully subscribed with a waiting list in operation. Starting later this week are “Paper Folding Workshops” for children and adults, with artist Vanya Lambrecht Ward via Zoom, for which there are some places available.
The Linenhall stated: "Paper folding is an amazing art which not only allows us to form a bridge between our 2D and our 3D understanding of the world but also has found all sorts of applications in our lives, from space travel to medicine. One fold and we move from the flat surface to the world of objects and find ourselves with new options and ideas. Folding can be free form or structured, and the results can be both aesthetically pleasing and intellectually intriguing."
"For the workshop series at the Linenhall, artist Vanya Lambrecht Ward will deliver two one-hour-long workshops for adults (Thursday, July 16 and 23 from 7pm to 8pm ), and for children, two 40-minute workshops (Friday July 17 and 24 from 3pm to 3.40pm ).
"These workshops are a great opportunity to get creative at home with guidance from an expert artist and facilitator. They build on Vanya’s previous work with the Linenhall where she presented her exhibition Fold/Unfold last year which was co-curated with Riverbank Arts Centre in Newbridge."
Vanya Lambrecht Ward has worked in the arts over the last two decades, from theatre and television, to visual art and architecture. She has worked with KidsOwn Publishing Partnership for the last 10 years, lectures in theatre design at IT Sligo and is currently Creative Engagement Resident Artist in The Dock. Her practice is centred around our built environment and combines photography, sculpture, painting and all things spatial. Folding is an essential tool in her practice and explorations.
