Independent Claremorris based councillor Richard Finn was elected as the Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council for the second time at the council’s AGM, which took place on Monday in St Mary’s Hall in GMIT.
Cllr Finn was elected to the position as part of a pact that was agreed between Fianna Fail and Independent councillors after last year's local election. Fine Gael put forward Bonniconlon based Cllr John O’Hara for the position and Cllr Finn was elected 16-13 following a vote in the chamber. The position of Leas Cathaoirleach was filled by Cllr Christy Hyland, who saw off Fine Gael’s Cllr Jarlath Munnelly 16-12 to take the position.
