Hyland wants to see lands developed for sports

Independent Cllr Christy Hyland made a plea for some of the 14 acres of land owned by Mayo County Council on the Golf Course Road in Westport - to be put aside for playing pitches.

Speaking as he stepped down from the position of Cathaoirleach of the Westport-Belmullet Municipal District on Tuesday, Cllr Hyland said that he hoped that some of the lands could be put aside for such uses as there were a number of sporting clubs and organisations in the town which are struggling with the lack of pitch space, due to seeing a large uptake in membership and participation.
