Weston Aerodrome owners refute Higgins drugs claim

The Mansfield Group, owners of the Weston Aerodrome in Kildare, have issued a statement outlining that a remark made by Fine Gael MEP Jim Higgins and published in the Mayo Advertiser two weeks ago was incorrect.

Deputy Higgins claimed that “the scope for smuggling drugs through airports was exposed at Weston Aerodrome in Kildare when the pilot of a private plane was discovered carrying in excess of €10 million of drugs”. However, the Mansfield Group have said this is inaccurate and grossly misleading.

The Mansfield Group have pointed out that the aircraft, which was hired from a company based at Weston Aerodrome, was in fact in Belgium when the incident occurred and that the arrests were made at the airport in Belgium.

They also state that the drugs were never on the aircraft and never in Weston Aerodrome. Furthermore, no pilot was ever found carrying drugs at any point.
