An tOireachtas, in conjunction with Foras na Gaeilge, has called for submissions for the 2020 Irish Language Books of the Year Publishing Awards.
The awards are in a number of categories: (1 ) Gradam Réics Carló (Book of the Year for Young Readers ); (2 ) Gradam UíShúilleabháin (Book of the Year for Adult Readers ) and (3 ) Gradam de Bhaldraithe (Book of the Year for publications translated to Irish ). A total prize fund of €17,000 will be awarded.
Adjudication is based on merit of publication; standard of Irish; design including text, cover, illustrations and publishing standards; and the extent to which the publication caters for demand in the market.
"I am delighted to announce the 2020 Publishing Awards" said Liam Ó Maolaodha, National Director of the Oireachtas. He went on to say: "We have been living through an unprecedented crisis over the last few months and I have been heartened by the excellent work carried out online by publishing houses and writers alike to give people a boost in these times of need and to put a spotlight on Irish Language writing and publications.
"We recognize the importance of giving due recognition to the creativity and excellence in Irish language publications. I wish the entrants every success."
Shortlists in all three categories will be announced in August and the winners will be announced in early October 2020.
