Independent Cllr Mark Duffy put forward a motion calling for the pedestrianisation of Pearse Street in Ballina on a trial basis - from Melvin’s Insurance to The Junction - for the months of July and August from 12pm on Saturdays to Monday mornings.
The sentiments of Cllr Duffy’s motion were supported by the other councillors but a number of them said they could not support it as there had been concerns raised about it by businesses and other members of the community; they wanted to see more consultation on the idea before backing it.
Cllr Duffy asked that a workshop be held by the councillors to see could they bring everyone together to look at the idea and hear from the businesses and people who have concerns about the proposal.
