Both the Ballina and Castlebar Municipal Districts elected a new Cathaoirleach this week following their annual general meetings.
Knockmore based independent councillor Seamus Weir was elected as the new Cathaoirleach of the Ballina Municipal District on Wednesday at the district's AGM in Crossmolina. He will take over the position from Fianna Fail Cllr Michael Loftus, with Fianna Fail Cllr Annie May Reape being elected to the role of Leas Cathaoirleach.
In the Castlebar Municipal District, Fianna Fail Cllr Blackie Gavin will be the Cathaoirleach for the coming year, succeeding Independent Cllr Michael Kilcoyne, who has held the position for the past 12 months. Cllr Gavin's Leas Cathaoirleach will be his party colleague, Cllr Martin McLoughlin.
