The late Argentinian ambassador to Ireland, Laura Bernal, will be laid to rest in Foxford today.
In keeping with the wishes of her family, Bernal will be laid to rest in Craggagh Cemetery, following the requiem mass for the repose of her soul in St Michael's Church in Foxford, which takes place at 12 noon.
Bernal took up the position as Argentinian ambassador to Ireland in 2016 and continued to forge strong links with Foxford, the birthplace of the founder of the Argentinian navy Admiral William Brown.
The Admiral Brown Society in Foxford said following her death: "The Admiral Brown Society wish to express our profound sadness and deep regret at the sudden passing of our dear friend and loyal supporter, the late Ambassador Laura Bernal, Argentine Ambassador to Ireland.
"Ambassador Bernal was a great friend to us all here in Foxford and was a regular visitor to the town. We extend our condolences to her family, to Diego Sadofschi, Deputy Head of Mission, the staff at the Argentine Embassy, and the Argentine community, both in Ireland and Argentina. May her gentle soul rest in Peace."
Local councillor Neil Cruise commented that it was "very sad news that Ambassador Laura Bernal passed away" and that she was "obviously very capable and always great company, Laura was a very sincere friend of Foxford."
