Mr Michael Ring TD, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, has announced that he has allocated €47,968 to 36 local community and voluntary groups involved in COVID-19 community response efforts in Mayo.
The following allocations have been made to local community and voluntary organisations in Mayo through the COVID-19 Emergency Fund: Westport Social Services €2,500; Castlebar Social Services €2,500; Louisburgh Meals on Wheels: €1,000; Order of Malta Castlebar: €1,500; Down Syndrome Mayo: €1,000; Foroige Castlebar: €900; Brickens Meals on Wheels: €2,000; Balla CRD: €500; Belderrig Community Centre: €500; Geesala Meals on Wheels €2,500; River Moy Search and Rescue: €500; Mayo Traveller Support Group: €1,300; Swinford GAA: €2,000; Castlebar Le Cheile FRC: €1,000; Claremorris Red Cross: €1,000; Suiffin Way Housing Association: €1,500; Achill MOW: €1,000; Killala Community Centre: €1,000; Order of Malta Louisburgh: €1,000; Kilvine/Irishtown MOW: €2,000; Curam FRC Claremorris: €1,000; Kilmovee Community Centre: €750; Mayo Women's Support Services: €850; Crossmolina SS: €1,000; Westport Order of Malta: €1,000; Local Link: €2,900; IWA Belmullet: €1,000; IWA Castlebar: €1,000; Ballycroy Social Services/Meals on Wheels: €1,000; Kilkelly FRC Outreach: €1,000; Foxford Social Services/MOW: €1,780; Ballinrobe FRC: €2,000; Moy Valley over 55 Club: €1,000; St Colman's Care Centre CLG: €1,988; Kiltimagh Volunteer Group: €1,500 and SVDP Ballina: €1,000.
Speaking in relation to his Department’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund, Minister Ring, said: "This funding will provide immediate and urgently needed funding to groups that are providing invaluable support to local groups which are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Local community and voluntary groups in Mayo are supporting significant numbers of vulnerable people, many of whom are self-isolating, to get through this crisis. This fund will help these groups to cover the costs of their work."
The funding announced today is part of an overall allocation of €76,036 for community and voluntary groups in Mayo under the COVID-19 Emergency Fund. Minister Ring has confirmed that the balance of the funding will be allocated to local groups in due course. Priority has been given to organisations which incur costs on direct delivery of frontline services to people, such as Meals on Wheels and other similar activities.
